1 Thales Visionix, Inc. designs, develops, and delivers helmet mounted display and motion tracking technology for defense and aerospace applications to customers worldwide.

The Scorpion Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS) is described by our current customers — pilots and integrators — as their solution of choice by virtue of its inherent “disruptive” and “game-changing” technologies, ease of installation and rapid deployment, and affordable procurement and life cycle costs.


Thales Visionix conducts product design, development, hardware and software engineering, product demonstrations, technical support, and manufacturing at its Aurora, Illinois, location which is about 30 minutes from O’Hare International Airport. The business’ center of excellence for hybrid-inertial motion tracking capabilities is located in Billerica, Massachusetts, which is about 40 minutes from downtown Boston.

Leadership Team

Thales Visionix Inc. is led by Robert Atac. He works closely with his Leadership Team, Jim Geraghty – Product Line Director, and Rick Johnson – Director of Operations. All are seasoned professionals in this area of business with over 100 years of combined experience. Thales Visionix Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thales.

Technical Team

Thales Visionix’s full-rate production and on-going development of the HMCS is organized around an Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) philosophy. At the multi-disciplinary team’s core resides a focus on optimizing product design, integration, testing, manufacturing and support processes. The technical team also strives to successfully balance product and processes, continuous attention to all functional areas, increased customer involvement, continuous lifecycle planning and proactive identification and management of risk. Program Managers and Project Engineers provide the daily operational leadership to the team comprised of software, mechanical, electrical, optical and systems engineers.
